MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 8 Valdosta State men's tennis team was upset by No. 23 Georgia College Wednesday in the season-opener for the Blazers. VSU won two of the three doubles to earn the first team point, but lost four of the six singles matches.
VSU won Nos. 2 and 3 doubles as Blazer duo of junior

Xavier Pineda won at No. 2 doubles over Jannick Kumbier/Noah Wallace, 6-4, while VSU tandem of junior
Axel Holm and freshman
Robert Cizek won at No. 3, 6-4, over Enzo Kohn/Nathan Connelly.
This season, Division II moved in line with Division I in terms of team scoring as doubles is no longer worth one point per victory. Now, a team gets one team point for winning two of the three doubles matches. Each of the six singles matches still are worth one team point.
In singles, Georgia College tied the match with a win at No. 2 as Matt Rogel defeated VSU freshman
Florian Simbozel, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. VSU regained the lead at No. 3 as junior
Yohan Nguyen defeated Kumbier, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. The Bobcats upset the Blazers in both matchups of ranked VSU players as Moller downed No. 21 Mas at the top spot, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, while Wallace defeated No. 21 Pineda at the No. 4 position, 7-5, 0-6, 7-6 (11-9) in a third set tie-breaker.
In all, five of the six singles matches went three sets, while Cizek won at No. 6 in straight-sets over Connelly, 6-4, 6-2.
The Blazers return to action Sunday at top-ranked Columbus State.
