Bosse and Fay Earn All-Gulf South Conference Tennis Accolades

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Valdosta State men's tennis junior Philipp Bosse and women's tennis junior Charleigh Fay earned All-Gulf South Conference honors, announced by the league office Wednesday.  Bosse earned first team honors, while Fay was a second team selection.
 
Bosse, a native of Bonn, Germany, is in his first season as a Blazer and is ranked 34th nationally in singles.  He is 9-5 this year and is 6-3 this spring, while going 4-1 in Gulf South Conference play.  Bosse mainly has played the Nos. 1 and 2 positions in singles this spring, while he reached the Round of 16 in the ITA South Regional in the Fall and the quarterfinals of the GSC Fall Championship.  
 
Along with Bosse, the first team consisted of Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon of West Florida, while Filipe Krohn and Quinn Groenendijk of Lee, Afonso Portugal and Jacob Tapia of West Alabama and Mississippi College duo of Matias Ruiz, Jr., and Mattia Ricci rounded out the first team.  West Florida had three players named to the second team, while Auburn Montgomery and Lee each had two second team honorees.  
 
Duran won Player of the Year honors, while Lee's Francisco Guimaraes won Freshman of the Year accolades and UWF head coach Derrick Racine was named Coach of the Year.  
 
On the women's side Blazer newcomer Charleigh Fay earned second team honors as she is 13-8 this year in singles, while going 12-7 in doubles.  She is 10-7 in singles this spring mainly at the No. 4 position and 5-3 in league play.  She and teammate Ivana Castillo Hurtado are 10-3 in doubles this spring and a perfect 5-0 in GSC play.  
 
West Alabama's Shaira Rivera was named Player of the Year, while West Florida's Kylie Kochis was named Freshman of the Year and Racine swept the Coach of the Year honors for both sports. 
 
The Argos had four players named to the first team, along with two on the second team, while West Alabama had two first team selections, with Lee, Mississippi College and Auburn Montgomery each having one.  Mississippi College had four named to the second team, while AUM, VSU and Montevallo each had one.  
 
VSU gets underway with the conference tournament as the men face No. 3-seed West Alabama Thursday morning at 9 a.m. ET, while the women battle No. 5-seed Lee at 6 p.m. Thursday evening.  Check back with vstateblazers.com for information on the championships.
