Bonilla and Sealey Named Steel’s Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State junior guard Kayla Bonilla and senior offensive lineman Adonis Sealey were named the Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week.  This is the second honor of the season for Bonilla and first for Sealey.

Bonilla, a native of Columbus, Ga., was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week this week as she led the Lady Blazers to a weekend sweep of the VSU Thanksgiving Classic.  She sparked a late rally in a come-from behind overtime win against Georgia Southwestern and led the Lady Blazers to a 69-59 win over Columbus State, pushing the Lady Blazers record to 6-1 overall. Bonilla averaged 21.3 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The guard also tallied a double-double against GSW with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

For the season, Bonilla is averaging 21.0 points per game on 36 of 72 from the field (.500).  She has six triples and is 27 of 31 from the line (.871).  She has 14 assists for third on the team, along with 12 steals for second on the team.

The No. 19-ranked Lady Blazers head to Georgia College for a Saturday matchup with the Bobcats.  Check back with vstateblazers.com for a complete recap of the game and stats.

Sealey, a native of Hamer, S.C., finished third in the national voting for the prestigious Gene Upshaw Lineman of the Year Award this season, announced earlier this week.  He also earned first team D2 Conference Commissioner's Association All-Region honors and was a first team all-conference selection for the second-straight year.  Sealey capped an incredible two-year run as he started all 25 games and helped lead VSU to a 24-1 record, including a national championship in 2018.

He anchored an offensive line that is fourth nationally in total offense at 523.2 yards per game and had the league's top rusher in sophomore Jamar Thompkins.  Sealey also blocked for two-time Harlon Hill finalist junior quarterback Rogan Wells and helped lead VSU to its second-straight Gulf South Conference title.  The Blazers finished the season 10-1.
