INNISBROOK, Fla. – The struggles continued Tuesday for the Valdosta State men's golf team as it fired a final round 311 finishing 17
th with a 54-hole score of 902 on the par 71, 7,209-yard Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course.
Barry won the 17-team tournament with an 850 score, followed by Columbus State (857) and Lincoln Memorial rounded out the top three with an 863 score. Georgia Southern was fourth at 866, edging host West Florida by three strokes. Lynn finished sixth at 870, followed by a tie for seventh between Florida Tech and Queens (N.C.) at 876. Saint Leo and Wingate tied for ninth at 878, while Flagler was 11
th at 886 and Limestone was 12
th at 887. Florida Southern finished 13
th at 890, followed by Nova Southeastern (894), Lander (898), Georgia College (900) and the Blazers at 902.
Queens' Taisuke Ono moved up five spots on Tuesday firing a final round 63 to finish 10-under with a 203 to take medalist honors. Dan Bradbury of Lincoln Memorial and Tyler Bakich of Barry tied for second each at 1-under 212, while there was a three-way tie for fourth at even par 213.
After opening with a 283 in the first round, things went downhill for the Blazers in the second round on Monday (308) and on Tuesday with the 311 score. Sophomore
Davis Smith finished tied for 40
th to pace the team with a 221 score on rounds of 69, 75 and 77, while junior
AJ Ouimet opened with a team-low 67 and finished with a 223 score (79,77) as he tied for 46
th. Sophomore
Chase Weathers tied for 70
th with a 231 score on rounds of 75, 78 and 78. Junior
Wesley Hanson finished 85
th with a 235 score (78,76,81) and senior
Jordan Long, who was disqualified in the second round, opened with a 72 and finished with a 79 on Tuesday.
The Blazers return home to prepare for the Otter Invitational Oct. 21-22 at Bayonet Golf Club in Seaside, Calif., to wrap up the fall portion of the season.
