VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball team will host the Holiday Inn VSU Volleyball Fall Classic this Friday beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Blazers welcome Albany State, Spring Hill College, and USC Aiken to The Complex.Â
VSU begins the tournament in a 12:30 p.m. matchup against Spring Hill College Friday afternoon, followed by an 8 p.m. match against USC Aiken. On Saturday, the Blazers conclude the classic with a battle against Albany State Golden Rams at 12 p.m.  Albany State, Spring Hill and USC Aiken all will play neutral site matchups with a total of four games on Friday and two contests on Saturday. Â

VSU volleyball currently is 1-3 overall, after a weekend at the Embry-Riddle Fall Tournament. The Blazers defeated Shaw, but fell to Lynn, Wayne State (Neb.), and Embry-Riddle. Junior

Chloe' Chubilleau lead the team in kills each with 26, while sophomore Tammy Reyes-Perez led with 107 assists, and
Aurora Nero leads the team with 49 digs.Â

Reyes-Perez is fourth in the Gulf South Conference in assists, while ranking fifth in the league in assists per set at 7.13.  Widera leads the Blazers with 11 blocks and is eighth in the conference in total blocks. As a team, the Blazers are fourth in the GSC in service aces with 25 and 50
thnationally, while ranking fifth in the league in aces per set at a 1.67 clip for 88
thnationally.Â

Lindsey Robinson leads the team in hitting at a .162 clip with 21 kills on 68 swings. Chubilleau leads the team with 94 total attacks for the season.  As a team, the Blazers are hitting .068 for the season. Chubilleau and Reyes-Perez each had double-doubles the first weekend as Chuilleau recorded 10 kills and 14 digs against Shaw in the 3-2 win, while Reyes-Perez added 35 assists and 11 digs in the match. Â

Albany State competed in the Jungle Rumble tournament last weekend at Augusta University. The Golden Rams were defeated by Augusta University and University of Montevallo, both by a 3-0 count.  They finished their 2017 season with an overall record of 18-12 overall and 13-4 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Albany State was named the top pick in the SIAC Preseason Poll announced earlier this month. ASU is led by head coach Verniece Graham, who is in her first season with the Golden Rams. Â

USC Aiken finished the 2017 season with a 25-6 record and went 10-2 in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). They competed in their own home tournament last weekend and the Pacers finished the weekend 2-1.  The Pacers fell to Barry, 3-0, but they defeated both Southern Wesleyan University (S.C) and Johnson C. Smith, 3-0.  The Pacers were picked fourth in the PBC preseason poll and had two players named to the preseason all-conference team.  Glen Cox leads the Pacers as he is in his 11
thseason at USCA.

Spring Hill was voted second in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West (SIAC).  The Badgers finished the 2017 season 27-5 overall and 18-0 in the SIAC. They will be under the direction of ninth-year head coach Peggy Martin. The Badgers are 1-0 on the year after a 3-0 win at Southern University New Orleans earlier this week. Spring Hill did play in a Division I Tournament last weekend at Southern Mississippi, where it went 1-2 in exhibition games with a 3-0 win over Division I Alcorn State. Â
Following the tournament this weekend, the Blazers close out the first home stand of the season Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at The Complex versus College of Coastal Georgia. Â
