VALDOSTA, Ga. - An impressive opening campaign for Head Coach Kerwin Bell will see it's regular season come to an end on Saturday in a contest where Blazer Athletics will also honor the Military and Valdosta State's 2016 Senior Class.

The Blazers (7-2, 5-2 GSC) aim to lock up a favorable No. 3 ranking in the Division II Super Regional 2 polls against the Shorter Hawks (0-10, 0-7 GSC), who will enter the matchup looking for their first win of the 2016 season.

On paper, Valdosta State holds a major advantage in practically every statistical category. Most notable is VSU's average of 35.1 points per game against Shorter's 7.9 points per game. In addition, the Blazers' rushing game, which features the GSC Freshman of the Week Cedric Hollingshed, has the potential for a big night against the Hawks' defense, which is currently allowing over 200 yards per contest.

The young history of the two programs also favors the Blazers, as VSU has won each of the last four meetings between the two programs. Valdosta State has dominated the series, in fact, outscoring the Hawks 115-34 in the all-time series and holding Shorter to six points or fewer in three of the four matchups. Shorter gave the Blazers their toughest battle in series history last season, when the program racked up 520 total yards, 466 of which were gained on the ground.

Blazer quarterback Adam Robles will aim to hold momentum this week following one of the season's best efforts in a critical win last weekend over West Alabama. The sophomore threw 34 completions in the game, with three touchdown passes and 353 net passing yards. Robles' effort represented a season-high for the Ocala, Fla. native in the completions column and led to his first ever Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor, issued by the GSC office on Monday afternoon.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with live audio provided at www.talk921.com and a live video stream provided right here at www.vstateblazers.com or by using the links below.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES: The contest will serve as Senior Day, with senior recognition set to take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's game will also serve as VSU's annual Military Appreciation game, with special pregame and halftime events planned to honor our active and retired military. A buy one / get one free ticket option is available in advance or on gameday for Saturday's football game and the weekend Lady Blazer basketball games.
