VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Blazers opened the season with a hot start, taking down the Middle Georgia State Knights 4-2 at the VSU Soccer Complex on Wednesday evening.
After a cancellation this past weekend, VSU was eager to see the pitch. The Blazers opened their 2026 campaign with a score in the fifth minute.
Kyndal Smith headed a well placed corner from
Kaitlyn Scherer and sent the ball to the back of the net to give the Blazers the advantage.
Fifteen minutes later the Knights equalized with a score from Ayah Abdul-Malik with help from Rylee May.
In the 29th minute, VSU regained the lead off of a goal from
Sarah Hudson courtesy of a
Natalie Ocampo corner kick. From there the Blazers took a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Amelia Dixon added on with a goal of her own in the 63rd minute. A few minutes later,
Kayleigh Kearns extended the lead to three off of a setup from Hudson.
Middle Georgia added in a score from Chloe Baladi to round out the scoring.
The Blazers return to action next week at home when they host Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 6 P.M. EST at the VSU Soccer Complex
