VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team kicked off Saturday morning with a 3-0 sweep against Paine College. The Blazers stayed in control of the match from the first play keeping Paine at 10 points or below every set. All the Blazers were able to get some reps during this match, keeping things interesting for Paine.
Kinsley Timmons carried the offensive efforts of the Blazers in a remarkable manner, ending the match with 10 kills from 10 attacks and achieving a perfect hitting percentage. Nearly one-third of VSU's 37 kills came from Timmons' flawless performance and the Blazers kept finding success at the net during the sweep.
Valdosta State started the match by winning 25-10 and kept the Lions down in the second 25-7. The Blazers finished the match in a dominant manner by hitting .611 in third set, making no attack errors and limiting Paine to just two points.
The serving phase turned out to be just as effective with Mia Verger giving a boost that enabled VSU to take off. She achieved 10 service aces in only two sets out of the totaled 16 amongst the team.
Camryn Childers recorded seven kills and Asia Montagnani with six. Peyton Mikles took a turn directing the Blazers attack with 20 assists and Avery Mullins contributed nine.
In a defensive effort, Ava Keuntjes headed Valdosta State with 10 digs, Verger contributed seven and Addison Cooley had six. The team totaled 51 digs.
As a result of their win, VSU's record for the season becomes 5-5 and they will end their Fall Tournament later Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Rollins.
