VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team wrapped up their Fall Tournament with a tough battle against Rollins College on Saturday, as the Blazers fell 3-0.
VSU started off strong in the first set, holding the Tars point-to-point early in the set. The Blazers continued to fight, but Rollins gained the advantage toward the end, winning 25-21.
After Rollins won the second set, the Blazers then put in a solid performance for the third. VSU remained within touching distance for the entire set until the end, until Rollins pulled ahead last minute winning 25-23.
Paola Aviles led the Blazers on offense with nine kills. Maddie Goodwin, Maddie Kilmer, Eva LaRochelle, and Camryn Childers each recorded three kills.
Avery Mullins continued to steer VSU's offensive play as setter, making 18 assists and also contributing 11 digs.
Kinsley Timmons had five blocks as she paced the Blazers, while Goodwin brought two blocks to the table. Addison Cooley gave a boost from the service line with three aces. Eimy Negron Domenech held down the back row with nine digs.
In the last set, Valdosta State displayed their resilience by coming back from behind and remaining only two points down towards the end of the set.Â
For the afternoon, Valdosta State ended with 29 kills, five blocks and three service aces.
Next up for the Blazers they will be back on the road to play against the Middle Georgia Knights on Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.
