VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Blazers took on the Bearcats of Lander Friday afternoon and ended the match with a 3-0 sweep. The Blazers kept control of the match from the first serve, hitting .228 as a team while registering 45 kills and seven service aces.
Paola Aviles led the Blazers offensively with nine kills, while Maddie Kilmer, Kinsley Timmons, Eva LaRochelle all had eight kills. In addition to this, Kilmer recorded three blocks and Aviles with four, one being solo. LaRochelle also contributed with a solo block.
Avery Mullins yet again directed the Blazers' offensive play during the game and ended with 33 assists. Defensively, Ava Keuntjes led with 20 digs and Eimy Negron Domenech contributed 16 digs with four service aces.
In the first set Valdosta State secured an early lead and continued to maintain it, winning 25-16. The Blazers stayed in a steady rhythm for set two, having a well-balanced attack, achieving another set win 25-18.
In the final set, Lander attempted to add some excitement with intense rallies, making the set close, but VSU stayed in control during the final few points. The Blazers then won 25-20, completing the hard earned sweep and are now 4-5 on the season.
Valdosta State volleyball will continue their Fall Tournament weekend Saturday at 9 a.m. against Paine College and finish with a match at 4 p.m. against Rollins.
