VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State volleyball team started off their Fall Tournament Thursday evening with a tough match against Embry-Riddle. The Blazers gave it their all but fell to the Eagles 3-1.
In the first set, VSU was aggressive and stayed in touch with the Eagles throughout the set. Embry-Riddle eventually took the early lead, winning the first set 25-22.
The Blazers produced quite the fight in set two, exchanging momentum and eventually leveling the match 1-1.
After the Eagles had won the third set 25-12, the Blazers continued to fight throughout the fourth. VSU managed to produce a number of strong runs and kept the Eagles within striking distance before Embry-Riddle ended the set 25-19.
Paola Aviles was on fire for the Blazer offensive attacks with Maddie Kilmer also having a solid performance at the net. Eva LaRochelle and Maddie Goodwin contributed to attacks as well, while Avery Mullins assisted in organizing the attacks as setter.
Eimy Negron Domenech was lead for the defensive work for the Blazers, while Kinsley Timmons also had an effect at the net.
Even with the setback, the Blazers displayed a lot of determination in their first home game and will have the chance to get back on track as the tournament goes on.
Valdosta State will be back in action Friday at 1:30 p.m. against Lander. The Blazers will then continue with their tournament play against Paine College and Rollins on Saturday.
