VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State battled to a 2-2 tie with the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on Wednesday afternoon at the Complex.
The Hurricanes wasted little time getting on the board. As GSW scored seven seconds into the match.
Then in the 12th minute, The Blazers drew a corner kick, and Kaitlyn Scherer delivered a beautiful rainbow pass to Kyndal Smith who tapped it in for the equalizer.
Both teams settled in, until the 21st minute. The Hurricanes attack hit paydirt again, with a goal to get back out in front. However, VSU refused to go away.
In the 33rd minute, a perfect through ball by Natalie Ocampo to Sarah Hudson resulted in another equalizer for the Blazers. The score remained tied as both teams went into the locker room.
The second half became a defensive war, with neither team wanting to concede the possible game winner.
VSU got close in the 81st minute with a shot on frame by Kayleigh Kearns, but it was saved by the keeper.
After 90 minutes, the teams played to a stalemate, resulting in a 2-2 tie.
The Blazers will return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 12th as they take on Delta State at home to open up conference play.
