VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State men's basketball head coach Mike Helfer announced the addition of Tim Vaughn to the coaching staff as a graduate assistant for the 2026-27 season.
 
The Chattanooga, TN native is no stranger to the Gulf South Conference, spending four seasons at conference rival Lee University. The three-year starter, was a major contributor during all four years of his collegiate career starting 81 games and logging nearly 2,500 minutes.
 
"Tim brings GSC playing experience and a great understanding of the game to our program," added Helfer. "I always respected him as a player at Lee and I think he will be a great addition to our staff.   As a young coach, he has a great understanding of the game and will be able to relate that to our players and help them both on and off the court.  I am excited to get started working with him." 
 
During college, Vaughn spent time working with the City of Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors, Boys & Girls Club and Lee basketball camps. He graduated from Lee in May of 2026 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management.
