VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State baseball team (14-27) returns to Billy Grant Field on Wednesday for its second midweek contest of the week, set to host Georgia College (16-23) at 5 p.m.
The Blazers and Bobcats meet for the second time this season, with Georgia College claiming an 11-9 win in March in Milledgeville, Ga. Valdosta State holds a narrow 9-8 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to 2009.
Valdosta State's lineup has seen production from a number of players, recently highlighted by sophomore Parker Ladd who is slashing .321/.390/.477 atop the order. Junior Charlie Banks has done it all offensively with ten home runs, 39 RBI, and an .893 OPS while also leading the team with nine stolen bags. Senior Brent Howard paces the Blazers with 33 walks and adds a .282 batting average.
Georgia College has been led by a massive offensive year from Evan Cowan, who enters hitting .423 with a .511 on-base percentage, along with Carson Phillips (.329) and Tanner Patterson (.320). Luke Boone leads the Bobcats with six home runs and 40 RBI, while Cole Huddleston has also contributed consistently in the lineup.
On the mound, the Bobcats feature several options for the midweek contest, highlighted by Keaton Prior, who owns a 3.92 ERA across 10 starts this season. Gavyn Seitz and Owen Thomas have also logged significant innings for Georgia College, while Nick Bennett started the previous meeting between the two programs earlier this season.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Billy Grant Field.
Thursday's game will also serve as Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day, with free admission available for all Valdosta State faculty and staff.
