PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team won 5-2 versus Delta State in a Gulf South Conference matchup Monday afternoon in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in GSC play.
VSU made quick work of the doubles point as
Kitti Nemeth and
Carmelle Vial won 6-3 at No. 3, while
Lena Beckx and
Milica Prokic also won 6-3 at No. 1 to clinch the point. VSU tandem of
Charleigh Fay and
Ivana Castillo Hurtado held a 5-3 lead at No. 2 when the point was clinched.
Heading to singles Prokick won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for a 2-0 lead over Amelia Ciesielczyk, while Vial won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 over Lena Kuehn. DSU's Yasmina Mayer won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles over Castillo Hurtado, but
Ena Arnautovic won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 to clinch the victory.
DSU's Ly Trinity won over Beckx at the top spot in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, for a 4-2 score, while Fay and Anastasiia Iakovlieva split the first two sets with Fay winning the opener 6-2 and Iakovlieva winning the second 7-6 forcing the super tiebreaker as Fay won the tiebreaker 10-7.
The Blazers return home to host Columbus State on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex and then at Georgia College on Friday at 2 p.m.
