VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State softball team will look to continue its recent momentum on Wednesday afternoon as the Blazers host Rollins for a midweek doubleheader at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2 p.m., with game two to follow shortly after.

Valdosta State enters the midweek matchup riding the momentum of a three-game Gulf South Conference sweep over Delta State this past weekend. The Blazers opened the series with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday before closing it out with a dominant win on Sunday to improve to 13-11 overall.

In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Blazers rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Lady Statesmen 8-3. Delta State jumped ahead in the first inning when Kyleigh Wheaton launched a two-run home run to center field, and the visitors extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth after Hallie Turner drove in Carly Dunigan with a triple.

Valdosta State answered with a pivotal rally in the bottom of the fourth. After Madison VanAllen singled and Annalise Buncy drew a walk, a pair of Delta State defensive miscues helped the Blazers tie the game before Cailyn Cooke delivered a two-run single to left center to give VSU its first lead of the contest.

The Blazers added insurance in the sixth inning as Alyssa Vallad and Chloe Eichelberger opened the frame with consecutive singles. Cooke followed with another two-run RBI single, and Saylor McNearney capped the scoring with a two-run single to center field to push the lead to 8-3.

Cooke led the offensive effort with a 2-for-3 performance and four RBIs, while VanAllen added two hits and McNearney finished with two RBIs. In the circle, Giselle Portanova earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four in five innings before Savannah Barfield recorded two scoreless innings to secure the save.

The second game of Saturday's doubleheader turned into a tight pitching duel that was decided in the final inning. Delta State built a 2-0 lead behind an RBI single from Ally Agner in the second and a solo home run by Maeve Lavoy in the fourth.

Valdosta State cut the deficit in the sixth when McNearney blasted a solo home run to left field. The Blazers then completed the comeback in dramatic fashion in the seventh. Carly Bogart opened the inning with a double before Payton Parkes laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the tying run into scoring position. Rachel Lee then delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, launching a two-run home run to left center to give the Blazers a 3-2 walk-off victory.

Toree Wofford picked up the win in relief after tossing four innings and allowing just one run on two hits, while VanAllen started the contest and worked three innings.

Valdosta State carried that momentum into Sunday's series finale, completing the sweep with a 12-1 victory. The Blazers erupted offensively with 12 runs on 11 hits, scoring in three straight innings to take control of the game.

The scoring began in the second inning when Alyssa Vallad doubled to spark the rally before Rachel Lee followed with an RBI double. Annalise Buncy later added a run-scoring double to extend the lead to 3-0.

VSU continued to build its advantage in the third inning as Carly Bogart singled ahead of a two-run home run from Madison VanAllen, and Lee followed later with a solo blast to left center.

After Delta State got on the board with a solo home run in the fourth, the Blazers answered with their biggest inning of the weekend. Buncy opened the frame with a solo homer before VanAllen launched her second home run of the game, a two-run shot. Lee added an RBI groundout, Evie Pitts delivered an RBI single, and Jayme Prandine capped the scoring with a run-scoring double to stretch the lead to 12-1.

VanAllen led the offensive surge with two home runs and four RBIs, while Lee finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Vallad and Buncy also added two hits each.

VanAllen also earned the win in the circle, throwing five innings while allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Rollins enters Wednesday's matchup with a 16-6 overall record after winning a weekend series against Embry-Riddle. The Tars opened the series with a 5-2 victory on Friday, highlighted by a sixth-inning rally and a complete-game performance from Reese Twiggs.

Rollins followed that with a 6-4 win in Saturday's opener, using a big third inning and a strong outing from Camila Leon-Blanco in the circle. The Tars ultimately split the doubleheader after falling 3-2 in the second game, despite a late rally that tied the game in the seventh.

Offensively, Rollins has relied on timely hitting throughout the early part of the season, with Claire Long delivering several key hits during the Embry-Riddle series, including a clutch ground-rule double that tied Saturday's nightcap in the final inning.

With both teams carrying momentum into the midweek matchup, Wednesday's doubleheader sets up as a competitive test for the Blazers as they continue their homestand. First pitch from Steel's Diamond is scheduled for 2 p.m., with fans encouraged to come out and support Valdosta State as the team looks to extend its winning streak.
