MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 35 Valdosta State women's tennis team posted a 7-0 victory at Georgia College on Friday afternoon for its fourth-straight victory improving to 5-3 on the year, while GC dropped to 7-5 on the year.
In doubles, GC top duo of Rachel Black and Victoria Conde Vendrell won 6-1 over
Lena Beckx and
Milica Prokic. VSU responded nicely as
Charleigh Fay and
Ivana Castillo Hurtado won 6-2 at No. 2, while Blazer No. 3 tandem of
Kitti Nemeth and
Carmelle Vial held a 5-2 lead and served for the match and won 6-2 for an early 1-0 lead.
VSU pushed the lead to 2-0 as Prokic followed her outstanding win on Wednesday to clinch the win over No. 26 Columbus State, with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over Conde Vendrell Friday afternoon. With all of the momentum, the Blazers pushed the lead to 3-0 as Castillo Hurtado, ranked 70
th nationally, posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Natalie Kirka.
Beckx battled back from a 0-6 first set loss for a 6-4, 6-2 win to clinch the match at the top spot and Fay posted a 7-6 (12-10), 6-3 win at No. 4 for a 5-0 lead. Vial pushed the score to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lucy Kim and
Ena Arnautovic won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 for the 7-0 sweep.
The Blazers return to action on Tuesday at Montevallo in a key Gulf South Conference matchup at 3 p.m. ET.
