SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Valdosta State continued its momentum from yesterday with five runs in the first inning en route to an 8-2 win over Chowan Saturday morning in the third game of the Old Coast Classic at Flagler College. The Blazers now are 3-0 in the Old Coast Classic heading into Saturday afternoon's final game.
Chowan (2-3) scored one run in the first inning on a passed ball, but the Blazers came roaring back in the bottom of the inning as senior
Saylor McNearney began the frame with a walk. She stole second and senior
Charlotte Phillips singled, plating McNearney for a 1-1 score. Junior
Alyssa Vallad singled through the left side plating Phillips for a 2-1 advantage and then with two out and an 0-2 count, senior
Carly Bogart belted a three RBI triple to right center off Chowan hurler Makenzi Curry who relieved Emily Fowler earlier in the inning and 5-1 score.
The Hawks put two on with one out in the top of the third courtesy of a walk and a single. Junior starter
Madison VanAllen came right back with a big strikeout for the second out. A double steal and a throwing error pulled Chowan within 5-2 for the second unearned run of the game allowed by the Blazers. VanAllen got a ground out to end the inning.
VSU (4-5) answered in the bottom of the third as Vallad began the inning with a single through the left side and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, before advancing to third on a ground out. She then scored as junior
Annalise Buncy doubled to right center on a 1-2 count with two away for a 6-2 score.
In the bottom of the fourth, Cooke singled to begin the frame and McNearney reached on a fielder's choice error, while Phillips singled and plated two runs courtesy of another error and an 8-2 score. Chowan had runners at the corners with two out in the sixth and the Hawks tried to induce the throw to second on an advance, but the runner at third got too far down the line and was tagged out for the final out of the inning.

Toree Wofford came up with a huge strikeout for the second out and then got a ground out to end the game.
For the game, VSU had eight runs on nine hits with two errors, while Chowan had two runs on five hits and two errors. Phillips continued her outstanding play this weekend, going 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored. Bogart was 1 for 3 with three RBI and the triple, while Vallad was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI. VanAllen (2-1) earned the win, going five innings, allowing four hits, one unearned run, walked one and fanned three. Vallad pitched the sixth and Wofford pitched the seventh.
The Blazers now conclude the tournament and go for an undefeated weekend at 3 p.m. versus No. 20 Saint Leo.
