MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Valdosta State women's volleyball team kept up its excellent run of conference play, sweeping Christian Brothers 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20).
The Blazers leave the match now with a 10-8 record on the season and 4-2 in GSC play. VSU continued to manage the game effectively from beginning to end through well-balanced attacks and a solid defensive performance.
Valdosta State ended the night with 54 kills and a .285 team hitting percentage. The Blazers also secured 70 digs and landed six service aces that kept Christian Bothers down to a .174 hitting percentage over the course of the three-set match.
For VSU's offense, Eva LaRochelle led with 14 kills while Maddie Kilmer followed closely behind with 13 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Maddie Goodwin also contributed nine kills.
Avery Mullins did an excellent job of organizing the Blazers' attacks, registering 35 assists and also making 13 digs as well as two service aces. Eimy Negron Domenech once again held down the back row with 20 digs and added two service aces as well.
In the first set, Valdosta State gained an early lead and continued to build on that momentum. The Blazers then pulled further ahead in the middle of the set and secured the set 25-17.
The second set was played in a way similar to the previous one as VSU kept up its offensive pressure. The Blazers landed 17 kills while having a .262 hitting percentage for the set and winning the set 25-18.
The Christian Brothers kept themselves within striking distance for the final set, but Valdosta State did not let up. The Blazers ended the set with 19 kills and completed the sweep 25-20.
Up next, the Blazers will have a quick turn around and play against Union on Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.Â
