JACKSON, Tenn. - The Valdosta State Volleyball team ended their road weekend with a sweep against Union.
With their second successful sweep after defeating Christian Brothers on Friday night, the Blazers now have a season record of 11-8 and 5-2 in GSC conference play. Even though the match ended in a sweep, Union put up quite the fight though it all.
Valdosta State ended the match with 33 kills, eight blocks and 55 digs while keeping Union at a .017 hitting percentage.
Eva LaRochelle landed 13 kills on the offensive side while also having six digs and one block on defense. Maddie Goodwin had six kills, Maddie Kilmer recorded five kills and four blocks and Paola Aviles had a significant effect at the net with four blocks, two being solo.Â
Avery Mullins directed great attacks and recorded 29 assists in addition to nine digs and one service ace. Addison Cooley stepped up in this match, recording 13 digs. Eimy Negron Domenech contributed nine digs.Â
VSU started the match strong in the first set, neither side was able to gain the early advantage until the Blazers took control and pulled away, securing the first set 25-22.
Valdosta State was able to create some separation in the second set, keeping Union to only seven kills. VSU finished the set with momentum behind them to go into the third set.
Union decided to put up a fight in the last set but the Blazers replied with well-rounded defensive performances, limiting Union to only four kills and a .103 hitting percentage. Valdosta State pulled ahead to finish out the match 25-21.
Next up for the Blazers, they will take their momentum home on Oct. 9 to play against Montevallo at 6 p.m.
