Blazer Senior Men’s Golfer Chase Long Set for NCAA Super Regional

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State senior men's golfer Chase Long is ready for the 2025 NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional beginning Thursday at Mission Resort and Golf Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.  
 
Long, a native of Stockbridge, Ga., is one of four individuals from the South Region to qualify for the super regional.  He, along with Eric Boutwell of Montevallo, Gray Campbell of Union and Reggie Fear of Eckerd comprise the individuals from the region, while Asmund Norum of King (Tenn.), Laurenz Meifels of Erskine (S.C.), Simon Wright of Anderson (S.C.) and Jamie Markwick also of Anderson are the individuals from the Southeast Region. 
 
The super regional also features 20 teams, ten from the South Region and ten from the Southeast Region. From the South Region the teams include; No. 2 West Florida, No. 7 Lee, No. 10 Florida Southern, No. 18 Rollins, No. 19 Nova Southeastern, No. 26 Barry, No. 35 Saint Leo, No. 36 Embry-Riddle, No. 38 Palm Beach Atlantic, and Spring Hill College.  VSU narrowly missed qualifying for the regional as a team this season.  
 
Spring Hill College received the automatic berth for winning the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAC) Championship, while West Florida earned the automatic berth for winning the Gulf South Conference and Florida Southern won the Sunshine State Conference championship.
 
From the Southeast Region; No. 3 Lincoln Memorial, No. 4 North Georgia, No. 5 Georgia Southwestern, No. 9 USC Aiken, No. 13 Columbus State, No. 14 Wingate, No. 16 Lander, No. 25 Lenoir-Rhyne, No. 34 Flagler and No. 44 Barton.  
 
The top seven teams and the two top two individuals from non-advancing teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship May 19-23 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. 
 
This season, Long has played in seven tournaments and a 73.3 stroke average with 14 rounds in the 70s and four in the 60s in 21 total rounds.  He has played in 23 total tournaments for his career and 66 total rounds for a 75.2 stroke average.  He has 52 rounds in the 70s and four in the 60s.  He has a low-round of 67 this past February at the Saint Leo Invitational.
 
Long is the first Blazer to qualify as an individual since Wesley Hanson qualified for the regional in 2022 which was held at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta.  Prior to that, the team qualified in 2021 for the regional finishing 16th and the team finished T-12th in 2019.  In 2018, former Blazer Matt Anderson finished tied for 21st at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.
