Blazer Men’s Golf Cards Final Round 4-under to Tie for Ninth at Argonaut Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. –  The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 4-under 284 to move up two spots and finish tied for ninth at the 2025 Argonaut Invitational hosted by University of West Florida at Pensacola Country Club.
 
The Blazers carded rounds of 297, 288 and 284 to finish with a 54-hole score of 869 and tie with No. 5-ranked USC Aiken.  No. 2 West Florida carded a final round 276 to finish 34-under for the tournament to take home team honors.  No. 8 Georgia Southwestern finished second at 25-under 839, while No. 3 North Georgia finished third at 22-under 842.  Columbus State finished fourth at 19-under 845, while No. 19 Lander finished fifth at 14-under 850. 
 
No. 4 Lincoln Memorial came in sixth at 9-under 855, while No. 6 Lee was seventh at 4-under 860.  Missouri-St. Louis finished eighth at 865, while USCA and VSU tied for ninth.  No. 28 UT Tyler was 11th at 871, followed by Flagler (872), Montevallo (884) and Dallas Baptist rounded out the field at 897.
 
UWF's Per Ekelund fired a final round 5-under 67 to earn medalist honors with a 16-under 200.  Teammate and playing as an individual Trey Rouse finished 10-under 206 as did teammate Fabian Wennerlof.  There was a three-way tie for fourth at 8-under 208. 
 
For the Blazers junior Elad Sebbag carded a 2-under 214 on rounds of 74, 70 and 70 to finish tied for 23rd to lead the team.  Sophomore Adam Waller also carded 2-under 70 on Tuesday to finish tied for 33rd with an even par 216 (74,72,70).  Senior Chase Long shot a final round 70 to finish at 217 on rounds of 72, 73 and 72 to tie for 38th.  Sophomore Alexander Nilehn tied for 62nd with a 223 score on rounds of 77, 73, 73, while senior Parker Highsmith tied for 72nd with a 226 score carding rounds of 77, 77 and 72.  Playing as an individual, senior Brandon Cho finished 76th with a 230 score after rounds of 77, 78 and 75. 
 
The Blazers got a much-needed win over Montevallo defeating the Falcons by 15 strokes as VSU began the tournament ninth in the NCAA Division II South Region rankings with Montevallo sitting just behind at tenth as both teams are vying for a berth in the NCAA postseason.  The teams will meet once more in the Gulf South Conference Championship, scheduled for April 17-19, 2025, at Tunica National Golf Club in Tunica, Miss.
