VALDOSTA, Ga. – In a makeup match from earlier in the season, the Valdosta State women's tennis team won the doubles point, but came up just short in an upset bid of No. 36 Georgia College Friday at the VSU Tennis Complex, falling 4-3.
Prior to the match, VSU honored four seniors playing in their final regular season match for VSU. The 2025 senior class included;
Viktoriia Fedorova,
Kayla Greco,
Valentina Jimenez and
Olivia Pezo. VSU Athletics wishes each of these seniors the best in their future endeavors.
VSU (5-13) now turns its attention to the Gulf South Conference Championship next Thursday at 11 a.m. ET versus No. 2-seed Mississippi College at the Lagoon Park and O'Connor Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala.
For Friday, the Blazers had to forfeit the No. 3 spot in doubles, but the other two positions made up for it as sophomore
Natalie Rainke and Fedorova won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles and Pezo/Greco won 7-5 at No. 2 to claim the early lead.
As in doubles, VSU had to forfeit the No. 6 position for a 1-1 score. GC's Natalie Kirka won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles over Jimenez for a 2-1 score, but Rainke, ranked No. 12 nationally, posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory for a 2-2 score. GC's Ashely Bentz won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles over Fedorova for a 3-2 Bobcat lead and GC's Jada Young won 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 2 over Pezo to clinch the win. Greco battled back from a 3-6 first set loss against Valdosta native Rachel Black, for a 6-2 win the second set and a 7-6 (7-0) win in the third for the final margin, 4-3.
