MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Valdosta State women's tennis season came to an end Thursday with a 4-0 loss to No. 18-ranked Mississippi College in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Gulf South Conference Women's Tennis Championship.
No. 7-seed VSU ended its season with a 5-14 record, while No. 2-seed Mississippi College improves to 18-6 overall and moves on to face No. 6-seed Montevallo on Friday, who upset No. 3-seed Lee, 4-3.
MC won the doubles point as Ann Cabot Stockett and Katharina Weber downed Blazer senior duo of
Kayla Greco and
Valentina Jimenez 6-1 at the No. 3 spot, while MC's Anna Hudson and Ricio Martinez won 6-0 at the No. 2 spot over senior
Viktoriia Fedorova and sophomore
Natalie Rainke for the early lead.
In singles, Alizee Ripolles of MC won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 over Jimenez for a 2-0 lead, while Jules De Mata won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles over senior Oliva Pezo for a 3-0 lead and Weber won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles over Fedorova to clinch the match.
Despite the team loss, Rainke, ranked No. 11 nationally, was leading 2-1 in the third set over No. 18 Emma Roberts, 6-4, 3-6, 2-1, while No. 71-ranked
Alyssa Novoa battled back from a 6-4 first set loss for a 6-3 win the second set against No. 57 Martinez at No. 2 singles and Greco stormed back from a 6-0 loss in the first set for a 6-4 second set win at No. 5 over Anna Hudson and Greco was leading 2-0 in the third set.
