Booth and Gano Named Steel's Jewelry Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Blazer baseball's Hunter Booth and VSU softball's Aniston Gano have been named this week's Steel's Jewelry Athletes of the Week.

Hunter Booth went 8.0 innings in Saturday's loss to Montevallo by a final of 2-1. Booth allowed two runs on eight hits while fanning four and not walking a single batter on 87 pitches for the Blazers. Booth holds a record of 3-4 on the year with an ERA of 3.94 in 45.2 innings pitched while leading the team in strikeouts with 40 which is tied for seventh in the GSC.

Senior Aniston Gano continued her outstanding season in the series sweep of Montevallo as VSU ran its winning streak to ten games last week.  Gano went 6 of 9 from the plate (.667) with three runs scored, two home runs and seven RBI, while slugging 1.333 and reaching base at a .727 clip with two walks and no strikeouts while earning GSC Player of the Week yesterday.  She had 21 putouts at first base with no errors and now has reached safely in 22-straight games.  She went 3 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI in the 9-7 win on Saturday to clinch the series and then went 1 for 2 with a run scored, two RBI and a home run along with two walks in the finale on Sunday as VSU won 5-4.  She opened the series with a 2 for 3 performance with a run scored, one home run and three RBI in the 5-0 win.  Gano is fifth all-time in VSU history in home runs with 55.
