PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team posted a 7-0 victory Friday afternoon over Delta State at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florda. VSU improved to 2-5 on the year and 1-2 in Gulf South Conference play, while Delta State fell to 0-9 overall and 0-3 in league play.
VSU won all three doubles matches to claim the team point as senior duo of
Kayla Greco and
Valentina Jimenez clinched the point at No. 3 with a 6-2 win over maria Caride and Cameron Jacob.
In singles, Greco dropped just one game winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 over Lara Torres for a 2-0 lead, while in the featured match at the top spot between No. 42 sophomore
Natalie Rainke and No. 73 Elena Palloura, Rainke won 6-1, 6-2 for a 3-0 lead. Freshman
Alyssa Novoa clinched the match at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Caride. Senior
Olivia Pezo won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 3 over Yasmina Mayer, while senior
Viktoriia Fedorova won 6-2, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 5 and Jimenez battled back for a 1-6, 6-1 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 6 for the sweep.
The Blazers had their match against West Florida scheduled for Saturday postponed due to the threat of inclement weather as no makeup date has been announced. VSU travels to Lee for a 2 p.m. match on Wednesday, Mar. 19 in Cleveland, Tenn.
