VALDOSTA, Ga. - In the first numerical NCAA regional rankings, the Valdosta State men's basketball team currently sits in the No. 4 spot of the south region.
In a region that is known as one of the best in the country, the Blazers are currently sitting in the fourth slot behind Nova Southeastern at one, Alabama Huntsville at two, and Florida Southern at three. Lynn is holding down the five spot followed by Trevecca Nazarene, Miles, Montevallo, Embry-Riddle, and Tampa at the ten spot.
Despite being ranked No. 9 overall in the country, the region rankings are based on many factors besides the coaches rankings like strength of opponent, key wins, key losses, etc. As it stands today, the Nova Southeastern Sharks of the Sunshine State Conference would host the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on March 15-18. The final three rounds will be hosted in Evansville, Ind. Mar 25-29.
Valdosta State has plenty of opportunity to move up the rankings as they play host to Auburn Montgomery on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. followed by Montevallo on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 4 p.m. for senior day. VSU will also be playing postseason basketball at The Complex as they host the GSC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, Mar. 4 as the No. 2 seed in the GSC.
