VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis upset bid of No. 13 Saint Leo came up just short as the visiting Lions posted a 4-2 victory Friday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex. VSU fell to 0-2 on the year, while SLU improved to 4-0.
At No. 1 singles, senior

Alyssa Novoa dropped the first five games of the set, but found a good rhythm and responded with four-straight wins pulling within 4-5, but SLU duo of Luzia Obermeier and Kamilya Shailina won the next game on their serve for a 6-4 victory and the first court to finish. SLU's duo of Madelyn Martin and Catherine Rabatin won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point over sophomore

Blazer No. 2 tandem of seniors
Kayla Greco and
Olivia Pezo battled back for a 4-5 deficit after dropping the first four games versus Camila Keller and Claudia Borbon Roca, when the doubles point was clinched.
Fedorova and Jimenez both won their first sets as Jimenez won 7-5 over Rabatin at No. 5 singles and Fedorova won 6-4 at No. 6 over Martin. Shailina won 6-1, 6-2 over Pezo at No. 3 for a 2-0 SLU lead. Fedorova won 7-6 in a second set tiebreaker for a 2-1 deficit. At the top spot, Rainke lost 6-0 Borbon Roca, but responded with a pair of 6-2 victories for a 3-2 deficit, while Greco dropped the first set 6-4 to Keller, but responded winning the second set tiebreaker forcing a decisive third set. Jimenez dropped the second and pulled within 2-4 in the third following a medical timeout. Rabatin went on for a 6-2 win and a 4-2 victory.
