Lady Blazers Under Consideration in First NCAA South Region Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team learned Wednesday afternoon it is one of ten teams under consideration in the first NCAA South Region rankings, released by the NCAA National Office. 
 
There will be two more public rankings each of the next two Wednesday's, prior to the announcement of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball selections scheduled for Mar. 9 at a time to be announced and broadcast on NCAA.com.  The next two rankings will be listed in seeded order, along with the NCAA Selection Show.
 
In alphabetical order, the teams in the initial poll are as follows; Alabama Huntsville, Clark Atlanta, Eckerd, Embry-Riddle, Lee, Nova Southeastern, Tampa, Union, Valdosta State and West Florida. 
 
The NCAA South Regional is scheduled for Mar. 14, 15 and 17, likely at the top overall seed in the region.  The site selection for the regional will be announced by the NCAA on social media on Sunday, Mar. 9, prior to the selection show.  The winner of the eight-team regional will advance to the NCAA Elite Eight, scheduled for Mar. 24-28, at UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
VSU is looking for its 17th trip to the NCAA postseason and fifth-straight appearance as the Lady Blazers are 18-16 all-time in the tournament.  VSU finished third in 1984 and returned to the Elite Eight in 2022, losing a heartbreaker to national runner-up Western Washington 58-55. 
 
The Lady Blazers are 15-9 overall and 10-8 in Gulf South Conference play as they at No. 14 Union on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET and then on Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET at Christian Brothers.
