VALDOSTA, Ga. - Lady Blazer sophomore Erin Whalen and Blazer men's golf senior Chase Long have been named this week's Steel's Jewelry Athletes of the Week.

Erin Whalen had a historic weekend, as she hauled in a career-high 15 rebounds in Saturday's win over Mississippi College. Whalen's 15 rebounds were the most by a Lady Blazer at The Complex since 2017. Whalen scored 15 points on 7/12 from the field and helped lead VSU to a major win over the Delta State Lady Statesmen. In addition to her 15 rebounds on Saturday, the Cumming, Ga. native recorded her eighth double-double of the season as the Lady Blazers are on a three-game win streak as the head up to Tennessee this weekend.

Senior Chase Long fired a 4-under 212 (68,67,77) at the Saint Leo Invitational finishing tied for fifth.  His 68 and 67 marked his best two rounds of his career at VSU and gave him four rounds in the 60s this year.  The tournament featured some of the top teams in the country as he tied with No. 58 Drew Zielinski of Lee and beat seven golfers ranked ahead of him, including three in the top 30.
