Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Blazers Ground Eagles 107-55 at the Complex

VALDOSTA, GA. — The Valdosta State women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, rolling past the Fort Lauderdale Eagles 107-55 at The Complex. Valdosta State improved to 4-7 overall with the win.

From the opening tip, the Lady Blazers controlled the tempo on both ends of the floor. VSU built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and led 31-12 after ten minutes. The advantage only grew from there as Valdosta State pushed the margin to 57-22 by halftime before continuing to pull away, outscoring Fort Lauderdale in both the third and fourth quarters to finish with the 52-point victory.

Valdosta State shot 50.7 percent from the field, 34.8 percent from three, and 85.2 percent at the free throw line while dominating the glass with a 55-31 rebounding advantage. The Lady Blazers also saw major production from their depth, finishing with 45 bench points.

Sophomore Ka'Miah Pryor led the scoring effort with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including four three-pointers. Sophomore Alina Martin added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman Chardae Rumph finished with 15 points. Freshman Kendall Dykstra chipped in 14 points with a pair of threes. Junior Erin Whalen posted 13 points and 13 rebounds, and senior Aryana Hicks and sophomore Raeanne Eccleston each contributed 10 points as eight Lady Blazers scored at least eight.

Fort Lauderdale was led by Alexis Gibbs, Keara Parker, and Khyle Wharton, who each finished with 11 points. The Eagles shot 31.7 percent from the field while struggling to find consistent scoring against VSU's defensive pressure.

Looking Forward

The Lady Blazers now turn their attention back to Gulf South Conference play as they look to build on the momentum from the convincing victory.

The action picks back up at the Complex on Friday, Jan 2nd at 6 p.m. when VSU hosts Mississippi College (4-7, 3-3 GSC). The Lady Blazers wrap up the home stretch on Sunday against Delta State (7-4, 5-1 GSC) at 2 p.m.
