CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Valdosta State women's basketball team (3–7, 1–4 GSC) pushed Lee University (7–3, 4–2 GSC) to the final minutes Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 62–58 Gulf South Conference loss at Walker Arena.
The game remained tight throughout, with neither team able to create sustained separation. Valdosta State stayed within striking distance through the first half and continued to apply pressure in the second, cutting the deficit to one possession late in the fourth quarter before Lee made key plays down the stretch.
Junior Aryana Hicks led the Blazers with 16 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. Sophomore Alina Martin added 12 points, while graduate student Erin Whalen recorded a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Lee was led by junior Anna Muhonen, who finished with a game-high 29 points. Senior Abby McFarland added eight points, while sophomore Libby Privett chipped in six.
