NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Valdosta State men's basketball ran into a hot-shooting Trevecca Nazarene squad Wednesday night, falling 107–71 in Gulf South Conference action inside Trojan Fieldhouse.
The Blazers dropped to 6–4 overall and 1–3 in league play, while Trevecca Nazarene improved to 7–3 and 3–2 in the GSC behind a dominant second-half performance.
Valdosta State stayed competitive early and traded baskets throughout the opening minutes, but Trevecca used a strong close to the first half to take a 41–28 lead into the break. The Trojans then pulled away decisively in the second half, shooting 63.6 percent from the field and knocking down 12 three-pointers over the final 20 minutes.
Trevecca finished the game shooting 50.7 percent from the floor and 41.9 percent from beyond the arc, overwhelming the Blazers with consistent perimeter shooting and transition offense. The Trojans also held a 44–31 edge in bench points and scored 23 fast-break points.
Drew Mills led Valdosta State with 14 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field, while Peter McKey added 12 points off the bench, including a pair of three-pointers. Michael Batchelor finished with 10 points, knocking down three shots from long range.
Valdosta State shot 40.3 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range, but struggled to keep pace defensively as Trevecca extended its lead throughout the second half. The Blazers were outscored 66–43 after halftime.
Despite the setback, Valdosta State continued to battle and received solid contributions throughout the rotation, finishing with 31 bench points and 17 fast-break points.
The Blazers will look to regroup and bounce back as Gulf South Conference play continues, focusing on tightening up defensively and building on recent offensive momentum as the season progresses.
