Blazer Golf Heads to The Dunning Invitational for Second Tournament of the Fall

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's golf team returns to the links Monday and Tuesday at The Dunning Invitational, Monday and Tuesday at Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, Miss.  The 14-team field will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.  
 
Delta State University is hosting the tournament and the field features 13 NCAA Division II institutions and Loyola New Orleans who is NAIA.  The field includes; Arkansas-Monticello, Christian Brothers, Delta State, Fort Lewis, Henderson State, LeMoyne-Owen, Loyola (La.), Midwestern State, Mississippi College, Montevallo, Spring Hill College, Trevecca Nazarene, UT Tyler and Valdosta State.
 
In looking at the newest Bushnell/Golfweek DII Coaches Poll, Henderson State sits 15th, while Midwestern State is 23rd, while Valdosta State is among others receiving votes this week.  A strong contingent of Gulf South Conference teams also highlights the field with Christian Brothers, Delta State, Mississippi College, Montevallo and VSU.  
 
Two weeks ago, the Blazers finished third at The Writz at Mile High at Bear Creek Golf Club in Lakewood, Colo.  There, VSU finished with an 891 score (295-298-298) as defending national champion and current No. 1-ranked Colorado Christian won the seven-team field with an 830 score.  VSU senior Brandon Cho finished fourth at 4-under 212 on rounds of 70,72,70. 
 
Blazer junior Joshua Burki finished 11th with a 224 score on rounds of 74, 74 and 76.  Senior Parker Highsmith tied for 19th with a 228 score on rounds of 74, 74 and 80.  Sophomore Alexander Nilehn tied for 23rd, moving up six spots with a final round 74 and a 54-hole score of 231.  Blazer junior Ty Folsom finished 34th (236) with rounds of 77, 81, 78. 
 
This week, four of the five players from last week are competing as Cho earned the top spot in the lineup, followed by Burki, Highsmith, Nilehn and Blazer junior newcomer Elad Sebbag is making his debut for the team.  Sebbag came to VSU this fall from Central Alabama Community College and calls Mountain Brook, Ala., home.
