Blazer Women’s Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision at Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle scored three goals in just over 12 minutes in the second half handing the Valdosta State women's soccer team its first loss of the season, 3-1, Wednesday evening.  Blazer freshman midfielder Anna Dandeneau scored her first goal in the 73rd minute for the final margin.

In a scoreless first half, the Blazers (2-1) had the early offensive action as senior Ana Moleka had a great look just ten minutes in, but ERAU goalkeeper Oona Jokinen was up to the task.  Later sophomore Hunter Wallace hit the post and moments later senior Emma Pruett made a great save to preserve the scoreless tie 33 minutes into the contest.   For the first half, VSU had three shots, while ERAU had two.  Both teams had one save and the Blazers held 3-1 lead in set pieces.

ERAU (2-1) found the back of the net with a high shot from Wilma Bergmann, who hit the crossbar, and the ball caromed into the net at the 51:57 mark for the first goal with an assist from Berglind Thrastardottir. Just under six minutes later, ERAU scored again as Grace Foyer scored for a 2-0 lead at the 57:41 mark.  The Eagles scored their third goal at the 63:50 mark for a 3-0 lead.

The Blazers kept fighting as senior Molly Wooldridge, but Jokinen made the save preserving the shutout to that point.  Wooldridge had another good look but Jokinen was there for the save at the 72:55 mark.  VSU scored its second goal of the season off a set piece as Dandeneau received a nice ball from junior Katherine Kimmel cutting the deficit to 3-1 at the 73:35 mark.  Senior Ansley Decenzo had a pair of shots late that sailed high and sophomore Sarah Hudson had a good look in the final minute, but Jokinen made her fourth save of the game.

Kimmel tallied her team-leading second assist of the season, while Wooldridge paced the team with three shots and two on target.  VSU finished with nine shots and five on goal, while ERAU had ten shots and six on frame. VSU had five corner kicks and ERAU had two.  The Blazers had three saves and ERAU had four.
