INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Valdosta State baseball team learned Wednesday afternoon it is number seven in the second South Region NCAA Division II Poll, announced by the national office.
In the second South Region Poll, Tamps sits in first followed by Saint Leo, Lee, Auburn Montgomery, and Embry-Riddle to round out the top five. Nova Southeastern is in sixth, followed by Valdosta State, Delta State, Albany State, and Barry to conclude the top ten.
In subsequent weeks, the teams will be ranked with the third ranking scheduled for a week from today (May 8) before the NCAA announces the field for the 2024 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship on May 10 on NCAA.com
The South Region will have eight teams qualify for the regional from the announcement on May 10. Each of the three conferences in the region, the Gulf South, Sunshine State and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will have each of its conference tournament champions earn an automatic berth to the regional.
This year, the NCAA South Regional is scheduled for May 16-19. Normally the top two seeds earn hosting duties. Each of the two sites is comprised of four teams in a double-elimination format. The two winners of each site then meet at the site of the highest remaining seed for a best-of-three series, May 24-25. The winner of the "Super Regional" will advance to the NCAA Division II Softball National Championship, scheduled for June 1-6 in Cary, NC.
The No. 4 seeded Blazers will travel to Oxford, Ala. to take on the No. 5 seed Montevallo in the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday, May 3 at 5 p.m. ET.
