PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 303 to finish tied for 13
th the Argonaut Invitational hosted by West Florida University on the par 72, 6,903-yard Pensacola Country Club course.
The Blazers carded an 888 score on rounds of 294, 291 and 303. Georgia Southwestern won the 15-team tournament with a 16-under 848 score, followed by North Georgia at 854 and Oklahoma Christian was third at 857. Host West Florida finished fourth at 861 followed by the West Florida "B" team at 873 to round out the top five.
Columbus State (875) finished sixth, followed by Coker at 876 and a tie for eighth between Lincoln Memorial and Flagler (877), while Henderson State was tenth at 879. Lee finished 11
th (881), followed by Montevallo (886), the Blazers and Shorter (888) and Carson-Newman finished 15
th at 900.
Individually, GSW's Payne Sells earned medalist honors, finishing with a 9-under 207, followed by West Florida's Fabian Wennerlof (209) and Oklahoma Christian's Oskari Nikku was third at 211. There was a four-way tie for fourth at 4-under 212.
For the Blazers, junior
Chase Long finished tied for 17
th with an even par 216 on rounds of 71, 72 and 73. Junior
Brandon Cho and sophomore
Ty Folsom finished tied for 52
nd each with a 224 score, while freshman
Alexander Nilehn was 69
th (227) and freshman
Adam Waller was tied for 73
rd with a 230 score. Junior
Zach Ashley, playing as an individual, finished tied for 71
st with a 229 score.
VSU now returns home to prepare to host the Gulf South Conference Championship Apr. 22-24 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta.
