PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team sits tied for 11
th after two rounds of the 2024 Argonaut Invitational. The Blazers carded rounds of 294 and 291 for a 585 score as they are tied with No. 6-ranked Lee and No. 26 Columbus State heading into Tuesday's final round.
No. 3 Georgia Southwestern leads the 14-team tournament with a 13-under 563, while No. 23 Coker is second with a 568 score, edging No. 5 Oklahoma Christian and No. 17 West Florida by one stroke (569). Top-ranked North Georgia rounded out the top five with a 570 score on the par 72, 6,903-yard Pensacola Country Club course.
The West Florida "B" Team is sixth at a 576 score, followed by Flagler (578), Henderson State (580), Montevallo (581) and Lincoln Memorial rounds out the top ten with a 582 score. Following VSU, Lee and Columbus State, No. 21 Shorter is 14
th at 587 and Carson-Newman is 15
th at 598.
UWF's Per Ekelund leads the field with an 8-under 136 on rounds of 66 and 70 as he leads by one stroke over Georgia Southwestern's Payne Sells who is 7-under with a 137 score on rounds of 66 and 71. There is a three-way tie for third at 5-under 139. Overall, 27 players sit under par heading into the final round, while an additional five player shot even par 144.
For the Blazers, junior
Chase Long leads the team as he is tied for 15
th with a 143 score on rounds of 71 and 73, while junior
Brandon Cho and freshman
Alexander Nilehn are tied for 45
th at 147 after both carded scores of 75 and 72. Sophomore
Ty Folsom is tied for 53
rd with a 148 score (73,75) and freshman
Adam Waller is tied for 74
th with a 153 score on rounds of 78 and 75. Junior
Zach Ashley competed as an individual and is tied for 69
th on rounds of 73 and 78 for a 151 score.
