VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Valdosta State softball is back in action this weekend as it heads to Clinton, Miss. for a three-game conference series against the No. 13-ranked Mississippi College Choctaws. The series kicks off on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 3 p.m. ET in a doubleheader with the series finale taking place on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.

The Blazers are coming off a successful road trip to Montevallo, claiming two out of the three games against the Falcons in the weekend conference matchup. VSU had a very eventful Friday afternoon, sweeping UM behind an explosive 23 hits for 28 runs with every Blazer getting in on the action at the plate. The Blazers took the first game of the series, 12-6, before taking the second game in six innings, 16-4. Unfortunately, Valdosta State couldn't complete the series sweep, dropping the final game 16-0 in five innings. The series win marked VSU's sixth Gulf South Conference series victory of the season.

Currently, Valdosta State hoists a 22-14 overall record with a 13-5 mark for second in the GSC. The Blazers have tallied 307 hits in 36 games including 34 doubles, six triples and 81 home runs for 2.25 homers a game. VSU has earned 268 total runs and 249 RBI while hitting a collective .316 and slugging .613 for sixth in the nation. This season junior
Carly Bogart leads the team in batting average, batting a .417 average on 35 hits in 84 plate appearances with four doubles and nine home runs. She also leads the team in on-base percentage, getting on base at a .520 rate. Meanwhile,
Abby Sulte leads the team in runs (47), home runs (23) and RBI (51) while slugging a team-high 1.047 percent. Senior
Morgan Hill leads the team in hits with 45 as well as doubles with 10 while also swiping 11 stolen bases.

Morgan Hill and
Abby Sulte have continued to blaze a path to Valdosta State softball history this season. Hill currently sits at sixth in the GSC in career home runs with 55 while ranking third all-time in VSU program history, just one short of tying former-Blazer Marti Littlefield's 56. She also sits at third in program history in runs with 189. Meanwhile, Sulte moved up to fourth in program history with home runs in a single season, currently sitting at 23 homers on the year. She is just four away from tying Courtney Albritton's leading 27 in 2014. Sulte also is tied for sixth in the GSC in the category.

Mississippi College enters the weekend with a 28-6 overall record while sitting at 12-6 in conference play. The Choctaws most recently defeated non-conference opponent Arkansas-Monticello on the road in a mid-week doubleheader, 6-5 and 8-5. MC is under the direction of long-time head coach Brooke O' Hair who is 510-302 in her 18
th season at the helm of the program. The Blazers hold a 22-15 record in program matchup history, dating back to 1987. VSU holds a narrow 6-4 advantage in the last 10 contests as MC knocked VSU out of the GSC tournament last season, 13-1.

The Choctaws are led at the plate by a dynamic duo in Jordan LaFosse and McCall Lee. LaFosse is batting a team-high .441 with 32 runs on 49 hits including 14 doubles and 10 home runs for a team-high 44 RBI. Meanwhile, McCall Lee is batting .400 with 27 runs on 44 hits including seven doubles, one triple and a team-best 11 home runs for 22 RBI. In the circle, MC is led by Brookelyn Cannon and Camryn Bailey. Cannon (8-3) boasts the best ERA on the squad with 2.60 with three complete games, one shutout and three saves in 75.1 innings pitched. She has 64 strikeouts and 34 walks on the year. Bailey (16-3) is the workhorse of the Choctaws bullpen, pitching 97.2 innings with two complete games and one shutout behind a 2.72 ERA. She has a team-best 114 punch-outs with 28 walks allowed.

Following the trip to Clinton, the Blazers are set for the final home stretch at Steel's Diamond. Valdosta State will host regional rival Saint Leo for a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before hosting Delta State for a conference series next weekend.
