Morgan Hill were named Steel's Jewelry Athletes of the Week. This is the first Steel's Jewelry Athlete of the Week award for Poborilova while it is Hill's second of the season.
Aneta Poborilova had another outstanding week for the Blazers, including helping VSU win its first match against West Florida since 2010, snapping a 19-match skid. Poborilova began the week with a win in singles and doubles as she and
Natalie Rainke downed No. 37-ranked Heden Ly and Khim Iglupas of West Alabama in doubles, 7-6 (7-4). Poborilova then won 6-2, 6-3 over Ly in singles. Against West Florida, she and Rainke won 6-2 over UWF's Carlota Verdu and Luiza Daud to win the doubles point. She then won 6-4, 6-4 over Guadalupe Martinez in the 4-3 win over the Argos.
Morgan Hill had an excellent weekend at the plate, helping lead Valdosta State to a road-series win over Montevallo. The Lake Park, Ga. native hit for .625 in the three-game series, tallying five hits in eight at-bats. Hill racked up six runs behind two doubles and a home run for five RBI. She also swiped a stolen base in every single game this weekend for three total. Overall, she slugged 1.250 and got on base at a consistent .727 percent.
For the season, Hill is batting .375 with 42 runs on a team-high 45 hits including 10 doubles, one triple and 13 homers for 29 RBI. She also has 11 stolen bases on the year. For her career, Hill ranks sixth in the Gulf South Conference in career home runs with 55, just one short of tying Valdosta State's Marti Littlefield with 56. In program history, her 55 homers rank third all-time while she also sits at third in career runs with 189.
Poborilova and the women's tennis team will take on conference-foe, Delta State on Friday, Apr. 5 at 2 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Hill and the Blazer softball team are set to head to No. 10 Mississippi College for a big time GSC series set to kick off on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 3 p.m. ET.
