JACKSON, Tenn. – Valdosta State junior forward
Kalifa Ford continued to add to her postseason accolades as she was named Conference Commissioner's Association Division II Women's Basketball South Region Player of the Year, announced Thursday.
Ford, who earned Gulf South Conference Player of the Year honors last week, has played in 29 games while averaging 14.2 points per game to lead the team and 4.4 rebounds per contest this season. She has helped lead her team to a 29-2 record overall, a 23-1 mark in GSC play, along with both the GSC regular season and tournament titles. The Lady Blazers also have the nation's longest current winning streak at 26 games entering the NCAA South Regional on Friday.
She is second in the GSC in field goal percentage at a .482 clip on 158 of 328 from the field. She leads the team averaging 14.3 points per game for fourth in the league. Ford is 83 of 108 from the line for a .798 clip. She earned a spot on the GSC All-Tournament Team last week helping lead VSU to its fourth Gulf South Conference title in program history.
Joining Ford on the D2CCA First Team All-South Region list was Eckerd's Lauryn Vieira, along with Lee's Mallory Hampton, Union's Shanique Lucas and Kentucky State's Gracen Kerr. On the second team, Nova Southeastern's Morgan Kane, joins Tampa duo of Mya Guisto and Zoe Piller, along with Auburn Montgomery's Allasha Dudley and Embry-Riddle's Madyson Jean-Louis.
