Blazers Shoot 2-Under Tuesday; Finish 11th at First Federal Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 286 and finished 11th at the 33rd Annual First Federal Southeastern Collegiate on the par 72, 7,421-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.  Blazer freshman Adam Waller paced the team finishing tied for fifth at 213 with a final round 68.
 
No. 18/20 Nova Southeastern won the 17-team tournament with a 12-under 852 score, while No. 3/5 Georgia Southwestern was second at 9-under 855, followed by No. 2/2 Lincoln Memorial (861).  Shorter was fourth at 862, followed by No. 5/7 Lee at 866 to round out the top five. 
 
Tampa finished sixth (868), followed by a tie for seventh between No. 7/11 Florida Southern and Union (870), while No. 17/18 West Florida was ninth (871) and Rollins was tenth at 872.  VSU carded rounds of 294, 293 and the 286 Tuesday for 11th and an 873 score.  Barry was 12th at 880, followed by No. 8/9 Saint Leo (881), Lynn (883), No. 15/17 Columbus State (887), West Georgia (899) and Georgia College was 17th at 923. 
 
Individually, Shorter's Blake Henriques and Nova Southeastern's Michael Hay tied for first each carding a 7-under 209.  Henriques won by birding No. 18 on the first playoff hole over Hay, who earned par.  LMU's George Durkan was third at 5-under 211, while Georgia Southwestern's Erik Fogel was fourth at 4-under 212 and there was a six-way tie for fifth, including Waller at 3-under 213. 
 
Waller continued his strong start to the spring with rounds of 73, 72 and the 68 to lead the team, while fellow freshman Alexander Nilehn tied for 17th at even par 216 on rounds of 72, 74 and 70.  Junior Brandon Cho tied for 45th with a 221 score (77, 73, 71), while juniors Parker Highsmith and Chase Long each finished tied for 77th at 229.  Highsmith fired rounds of 78, 74 and 77, while Long carded a 72, 77 and 80. 
 
Sophomore Ty Folsom, playing as an individual, finished tied for 13th on rounds of 68, 72 and 75 for a 215 score, while sophomore Joshua Burki finished tied for 59th at 225 on rounds of 76, 76 and 72.  On Tuesday, three of the four counting scores for the team score for the Blazers were under par in one of the best rounds of the season. 
 
VSU finished with 32 birdies and 181 pars for the tournament as the 181 pars tied for the tournament-high.  The Blazers had one eagle for the tournament and Folsom had an albatross in the first round highlighting the tournament.  Waller finished 3-under on par 3's and Folsom paced the field on par five scoring at 7-under, while Waller was 6-under. 
 
The Blazers have a quick turnaround as they head to the Bobcat Invitational, Mar. 18-19, in Eatonton, Ga., at Cuscowilla Golf Club hosted by Georgia College.
