Blazer Continue Road Trip to Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday Night

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State Blazers will continue their road trek, as they travel to Americus, Ga. to face Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 6 p.m.
 
Valdosta State enters this matchup with a 11-9 (6-6 GSC) record and are coming off a series victory in Livingston, Ala. versus West Alabama. The offense lit up the Tigers, as the Blazers scored a total of 37 runs in three games over the weekend. Sophomore Dennis Pierce was the catalyst in game two, as the Philly native hit a grand slam and a two-run homerun in a seven-inning game. Redshirt junior Zac Dodson had an excellent game in his lone start of the week. The Boca Raton, Fla. native picked up his first win of the season on Saturday, as Zac went 6.2 innings and allowed zero earned runs. Dodson allowed six hits while striking out seven and only walking one batter on 87 pitches.
 
Georgia Southwestern welcomes Valdosta State with a 17-5 (4-2 Peach Belt Conference) record. The hurricanes are winners of four straight after the swept USC Aiken in Americus this past weekend. GSW is led by head coach Josh McDonald, who is in his sixth season at helm of the program and currently holds a 128-114 overall record. The Georgia Southwester alum is coming off his best season as head coach, as the Hurricanes finished with a 34-19 record last season. As a team, Georgia Southwestern is hitting .334 which is first in the conference. They are also tops in the Peach Belt Conference with a team ERA of 3.48. Individually, the offense is led by a trio of hitters. For average, they are led by Cory Lee, who is fourth in the conference and first on the team with a batting average of .418. Slugger Kalvin Alexander has hit nine home runs to lead the time and rank second in the conference. Finally, they are led by leadoff hitter Miles Hartsfield who has an on-base percentage of .504 and leads the team in runs scored with 31 and stolen bases with six. On the bump, they are led by redshirt senior Nick McCollum who has made six starts this season and is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.22 in 37.0 innings pitched.
 
Following tomorrow's matchup with the Hurricanes, the Blazers return back home to welcome Alabama Huntsville for a weekend series starting on Friday, Mar. 15 at 5 p.m.
