VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team welcomes the Union Bulldogs to town for a three-game weekend set starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 2 with game one at 1 p.m. Game three of the series will be on Sunday, Mar. 3 at 1 p.m.

The Blazers enter this matchup with a 7-6 (2-4 GSC) record following a loss at No. 10 Saint Leo on Tuesday evening. For the Bulldogs, they head to Titletown carrying a record of 7-9 (2-4 GSC) and are losers of four straight. Valdosta State is 5-3 at Billy Grant Field this season, while Union is 0-4 in road games.
 
The Blazer baseball team is led by head coach Greg Guilliams, who is in his 17^th season leading VSU. During his time in Valdosta, Guilliams has led the program to a 480-309-1 record overall with eight seasons in which they have won 30+ games. For the season, the Blazers are hitting .299 as a team and are holding opponents to a .279 average. The Blazer pitching staff has a 4.85 ERA as a team, while freshman Jacob King and junior JJ Finn have been exceptional early on, as the duo has allowed a combined 14 hits over 20 innings pitched. Finn is holding opponents to a batting average of .175 while King is limiting them to a .219. Offensively, senior Ryan Romano has started to heat up as the do it all player is hitting .447 on the season, good for fourth in the GSC. Sophomore Dennis Pierce has been surging this season, as the 1B/OF is batting .386 and leads the team with three homeruns, 18 RBIs, and two triples. The Quakertown, Pa. native ranks ninth in the GSC in OPS with a 1.196.
 
The Union Bulldogs are led by second year head coach Casey McGehee, who is 21-40 in his two seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs. McGehee played eight seasons across the NPB and MLB. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2003, McGehee played nine games in the pros for the Cubbies before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, where he played in 428 games across three seasons and slugged 52 homers while driving in 237 including 104 in the 2010 season. The Bulldogs are batting .287 as a team and are holding opponents to a .295 average. Union is coming off a tough weekend, getting swept in Jackson, Tenn. by Delta State before dropping another home contest against Henderson State on Tuesday. UU is led in hitting by Grant Ross, who is slashing .390/.463/.492 as the 1B/OF leads the team in hits and RBIs. On the mound, the team holds an ERA of 6.85 while their two qualified pitchers have allowed a total of 29 earned runs over 41 innings pitched.
 
Following the weekend series, the Blazers will host Embry-Riddle for a single game on Tuesday, Mar. 5 at 5 p.m. Following that game, VSU will hit the road to Livingston, Ala. to face the Tigers of West Alabama starting on Friday, Mar. 8.
