VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team welcomes the Union Bulldogs to town for a three-game weekend set starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 2 with game one at 1 p.m. Game three of the series will be on Sunday, Mar. 3 at 1 p.m.

The Blazers enter this matchup with a 7-6 (2-4 GSC) record following a loss at No. 10 Saint Leo on Tuesday evening. For the Bulldogs, they head to Titletown carrying a record of 7-9 (2-4 GSC) and are losers of four straight. Valdosta State is 5-3 at Billy Grant Field this season, while Union is 0-4 in road games.

Dennis Pierce has been surging this season, as the 1B/OF is batting .386 and leads the team with three homeruns, 18 RBIs, and two triples. The Quakertown, Pa. native ranks ninth in the GSC in OPS with a 1.196.
The Union Bulldogs are led by second year head coach Casey McGehee, who is 21-40 in his two seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs. McGehee played eight seasons across the NPB and MLB. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2003, McGehee played nine games in the pros for the Cubbies before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, where he played in 428 games across three seasons and slugged 52 homers while driving in 237 including 104 in the 2010 season. The Bulldogs are batting .287 as a team and are holding opponents to a .295 average. Union is coming off a tough weekend, getting swept in Jackson, Tenn. by Delta State before dropping another home contest against Henderson State on Tuesday.
