VALDOSTA, Ga. – Riding a 21-game winning streak, the Valdosta State women's basketball team remained No. 2 in the newest D2 College Sports Communicators Top 25, announced Wednesday, while it moved up two spots to sixth in the newest Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25.
VSU stands at 24-2 overall and 21-1 in Gulf South Conference play as it returns home to host West Alabama on Thursday at 6 p.m. at The Complex for the annual Pink Game and will close the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day versus Alabama Huntsville.
Headlining the D2CSC Top 25 is Ashland (Ohio) with 372 points, along with 14 of 15 first-place votes and a 25-1 record overall. VSU sits second with 343 points, followed by Gannon (Pa.), with the remaining first-place vote and 334 points. Jefferson sits fourth (329) and Grand Valley State rounds out the top five with 316 points. Nova Southeastern is eighth this week, while Union is 11
th and Tampa is 21
st among teams from the South Region.
As for the WBCA Top 25, Ashland also leads that poll with 572 points and 21 of 23 first-place votes, followed by Grand Valley State, Jefferson, Gannon and Union is fifth. VSU sits sixth, while Nova Southeastern is 11
thand Tampa is 16
th. Miles is among other teams receiving votes for teams from the South Region.
