This Week in Blazer Athletics 2/26

VALDOSTA, Ga. – It is an action-packed week in Titletown, as there are 12 home games starting on Thursday and going through Sunday.
 
Men's tennis:
The top-ranked Blazer men's tennis team will host Columbus State on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. VSU is coming into this matchup with a 5-2 overall record, and recently went 1-2 in the ITA National Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on the weekend of 2/16. They initially lost to no. 4 Flagler before defeating No. 5 West Florida before eventually falling to the host team no. 7 Indianapolis. On the season, junior Boruch Skierkier is 7-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. He recently earned GSC Player of the Week on Feb. 14.
 
Women's tennis:
The Blazer women's tennis team will also be playing host to Columbus State, with the match also starting at 2 p.m. Valdosta State is coming off a huge win last week, defeating no. 22 Georgia College on the road on Feb. 21. VSU is 2-2 on the season, having beat GSC foe Shorter and falling to no. 1 Barry and no. 3 Lee. Freshman Natalie Rainke has been a stud to start her career, as she is 2-1 on the season and earned GSC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 14.
 
Women's basketball:
The No. 2/8 Lady Blazers are currently on a 21-game winnings streak after they defeated Montevallo and Auburn Montgomery on the road this past weekend. The Lady Blazers will host West Alabama for the Kay Pink Game on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. If they were to win, they would own the longest winning streak in VSU women's basketball history, passing the 1983-84 team. On Saturday, Valdosta State will welcome Alabama Huntsville for the last regular season game at The Complex. On Tuesday, VSU will host GSC Super-Tuesday for the GSC Quarterfinal at 6 p.m.
 
Men's basketball:
The Blazer men's basketball team is currently riding a four-game win streak, after they defeated Montevallo on Thursday night before downing the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks on Saturday, 100-97. Valdosta State currently sits half a game back of the final spot on the GSC, as they will need to win out this week and get some help to secure the final spot in the GSC Tournament. VSU will play host to West Alabama on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. before facing off against Alabama Huntsville on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 4 p.m.
 
Baseball:
The VSU baseball team will travel to Saint Leo, Fla. to face Saint Leo on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. before hosting Union for a conference matchup on Friday, Mar. 1 at 5 p.m. before playing a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 2 with the first game at 1 p.m. This past weekend, the Blazers went 1-2 on the road at Lee, dropping the first two before winning game three, 8-1. On the season, VSU sits at 7-5 overall and 2-4 in conference heading into Tuesday's matchup.
 
Softball:
The Blazer softball team heads into March holding a 12-8 overall record and are currently on a four-game win streak after the swept the Lee Flames on the road this past weekend. VSU is back in action on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 2 p.m. for a double header versus Union before playing a single game on Sunday, Mar. 3 at 1 p.m. Junior Abby Sulte had a killer weekend, tallying six hits, with four of them being homers and also drove in seven Blazers.
