DADE CITY, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team opened the Saint Leo Invitational with an even par 288 score on the par 72, 7,054-yard Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club course. The second round was suspended due to darkness as the Blazers are second in the standings. VSU currently is second in the standings was play was halted.
The 20-team field will finish the second round on Tuesday morning and then go right into the final round. The Blazers' 288 score placed them sixth following the first round as host Saint Leo led the way with a 277 score, followed by Keiser University at 280, Barry (282), Nova Southeastern (286) and Palm Beach Atlantic rounded out the top five with a 287 score in the first round.
For the Blazers, junior
Brandon Cho opened with a 2-under 70, as did junior
Parker Highsmith and both sat tied for 12
th. Freshman
Adam Waller fired a 2-over 74, tying with junior
Chase Long and sophomore
Joshua Burki shot a 75. Playing as an individual, freshman
Alexander Nilehn carded a 76 in the first round.
Saint Leo's Adrian Soriano carded a 9-under 63, while Keiser's Isac Wallin fired a first round score of 65 for second and Barry's Albin Ekvall is third at 67. Overall, twenty players shot under par in the first round.
