MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team held the early lead in doubles, but was unable to hang on in a 4-1 loss to No. 1-ranked Barry Saturday morning. VSU fell to 1-1 on the year, while Barry improved to 2-1.

Natalie Rainke and Aneta Porobilova won 6-3 over Dinara Alloiarova and Clara Versier at No. 2, 6-3. Barry won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles as Viktoriia Dema and Angela Leweurs won 6-1 over juniors
Olivia Pezo and
Kayla Greco. Coming down to the top spot to clinch the team point, VSU duo of
Viktoriia Fedorova and
Denisa Hanakova won 6-2 over Alina Michalitsch and Maia Haumuller for an early 1-0 lead.
In singles, Leweurs won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 for a 1-1 score and Haumuller downed Fedorova 6-2, 6-2, at number six, giving Barry at 2-1 lead. The Buccaneers won at number four as Versier, ranked No. 26 nationally, won 6-4, 6-3 over Hanakova for a 3-1 lead. Dema downed Pezo, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the match at number three singles as the top two spots were not played out. Poborilova and Alloiarova split two sets at number two, and Michalitsch won the first set over Rainke 7-6 (8-6) and was leading 2-1 in the second set when the match was clinched.
