Edwards, Flowers and Elder will move onto the national ballot for All-America consideration as the All-America Team is expected to be announced Wed., Dec. 18.
A native of Saint Augustine, Fla., Edwards is a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy for the second-straight season and earned Gulf South Conference Player of the Year honors as he has guided the team to an 11-0 record and a berth in the NCAA Quarterfinal round of the Division II playoffs this weekend in Valdosta. Edwards is 23-2 as a starting quarterback in two seasons as he is 12
th nationally and tops in the GSC currently in completion percentage at a .661 clip on 183 of 277 passing for 2,627 yards with 24 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He set the GSC-record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception this season (195). Edwards is seventh nationally in passing efficiency at 172.9, while he is 15
th nationally in passing touchdowns (24) and 20
th in passing yards (2,627). He is 19
th nationally in passing yards per game at a 238.8 clip and 24
th in points responsible for (168). Edwards is ninth nationally in yards per pass attempt at a 9.48 clip.
This season, he has thrown for over 300 yards twice and registered a season-high five touchdown passes once. He has helped lead VSU to the No. 11-ranked total offense at 456.8 yards per game, while the passing offense is at 252.1 clip for 20
th nationally and the rushing offense is 14
th at 204.7 yards per game. For his career, Edwards is fifth all-time in school history in career passing yards (6,971), while he is seventh in career completions (517 of 782) and sixth in career touchdown passes (58). He is sixth in total offense with 7,465 yards.
Elder, a native of Richmond, Va., was named GSC Co-Defensive Player of the Year this season as he leads the team with 79 total tackles and 42 solo stops. He has 11 tackles for loss for 52 yards to lead the team, while he has registered 3.5 sacks for 26 yards. Elder has one interception with three pass breakups, one fumble return and two forced fumbles. He earned GSC Defensive Player of the Week three times, while registering double-digit tackles twice. He had a season-high 12 tackles at Delta State (11/9) and is part of a defense that currently is second nationally in scoring defense allowing just 9.8 points per game, while the team is 11
th nationally in total defense allowing just 250.5 yards per game and sixth nationally in passing defense at just 134.0 yards allowed per contest. The Blazers sit third in the league in rushing defense allowing just 116.5 yards per game. Individually, Elder is sixth in the GSC in solo tackles per game at a 3.7 clip, while he eighth in the conference in tackles for loss per game at a 1.0 average. He is fifth in the league in total tackles per game at a 7.0 clip.
Flowers, a native of LaGrange, Ga., has started all 11 games thus far at center for the Blazers earning first team all-league honors. He has over 36 knockdown blocks and has graded out at 97 percent for the season for the highest on the team. He blocks for an offense that is 11
th nationally in total offense at 456.8 yards per game, while it is the 20
thpassing offense at 252.1 yards per game and the 14
th rushing offense (204.7). Not only do the Blazers excel in keeping points off the board, but also in putting points on the board as they are seventh nationally in scoring offense at 42.2 points per game.
Both Mawali and Asse have had outstanding seasons on the offensive line for the Blazers and earned first team all-league honors this season, while Roberts earned first team all-league honors on defense. Mawali and Asse each have had numerous knockdown blocks this season for Edwards. On defense, Roberts has 37 tackles with 7.5. tackles for loss for third on the team for 34 yards, while he has 3.5 sacks for 29 yards. Roberts has five hurries for most on the team, while he has two forced fumbles this season. His 37 tackles are good for fifth on the team.
