The Blazers are 2-0 to start the year for the first time since 2020-21 after they defeated Fort Valley State and Clark Atlanta by a combined 50 points over this past weekend. The Maroon Tigers are welcomed into Titletown with a record of 0-2, as they fell to Embry-Riddle and Palm Beach Atlantic in Palm Beach, Fla. this past weekend.

On Saturday night's win versus Clark Atlanta, Valdosta State set The Complex on fire, hitting 23 threes on just 36 attempts to break a VSU record for most threes made in a game. The 119 points scored was the most in a game since the Blazers scored 121 versus Clinton College in 2022-23. Individually, Valdosta State senior Carlos Hart started his VSU career on a high note over the weekend, as the guard averaged 20 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three and a half steals on just 23 minutes per game while shooting .533 from the floor, .500 from distance and .846 from the line. On Friday night's game versus Fort Valley State, the guard shot 16 of 20 from the charity stripe, tying an all-time VSU record for most free throws made in a game by a single player that was set back in 2010 by Tyrone Curnell. He would finish the weekend shooting 22 of 26 from the line.

Defense to offense has been the storyline for VSU so far, as they have forced a total of 48 turnovers through two games, which has turned into 50 Blazer points. Valdosta State has surpassed the century mark in their first two games for the first time since the 2009-10 season. The bench has also been producing at a high level, as the reserves are averaging 47 points a night.

Senior Braxton Williams has been aggressive early on, as the guard returned to Valdosta and has been making the most of it, averaging 19.5 points on .444/.500/.818 shooting splits while grabbing seven rebounds a night and tallying one and a half steals. Off the pine, junior Ethan Pires has lit it up early, as he has knocked down six threes in two games while averaging 13.5 points a night.

Valdosta State and Morehouse College have squared off four times since 1993, as both teams have split the four games and haven't played since 1999. The Maroon Tigers are led by head coach Douglas Whitter, who is in his fourth season and holds a record of 59-30. Morehouse College is led in scoring by junior JerMontae Hill, who is averaging 17.5 points a game on .636 from the floor while recording six steals over two games. Valdosta State has been spreading the love as they are averaging 21 assists per game, which is good for 11th in the country and tops in the GSC.
